A tiny slice of Italy, in Old Saybrook. Located in The James Pharmacy Inn and Gelateria serves freshly-made gelato, non-alcoholic drinks blended with fresh fruit and juices, Shearwater coffee, Simpson & Vale teas, and exquisitly traditional Italian espresso and cappuccino.
TRADITION WITH A TWIST
A community cornerstone – having served as a general store in 1790, the town’s very first pharmacy in 1877, and later a soda fountain where townspeople would gather. Now, this historic building has been lovingly repurposed into an elegant Inn with hints of Europe throughout. Three guest rooms have been entirely renewed – featuring four-poster beds with luxurious Italian linens, modern oversized showers redone in sparkling subway tile, and gas fireplaces. As a nod to the historic soda counter that once drew crowds, today’s patrons are tempted by Italian gelato, made daily on the premises, as well as espresso and cappuccino in the onsite Caffé Marche.
